Choosing to Have a Good Day

Sometimes, you just wake up "on the wrong side of the bed".  That was me this morning.

I got up around the usual time and, despite my best efforts, I could not get my act together.

I tried my hardest to keep down the noise and to avoid waking my wife too early, but it seemed like every time I touched something or even passed by it, it made the loudest sound possible.

Since I didn't get my clothes together the night before, I ended up ironing and taking more time than I expected on getting dressed.

Once that was over with, I didn't have much time for breakfast, so I inhaled some cereal as fast as possible and got out the door.

Once I got off the bus to walk toward my office, about halfway through, I felt something pop me on the shoulder.  After looking over, I could have passed out.  There was a disgusting brown spot on my shoulder from a bird and I still had to take the other half of my walk to the building.

I felt terrible and it brought back memories of the first time this happened, which was only a couple of months ago.  I decided to dressed nicely one day for work and I took a walk to find a restaurant for lunch. While waiting in front of a restaurant, I was hit by a bird and didn't know that was what hit me.

In my ignorance, after changing my mind about eating at that restaurant, I walked around feeling confident, smiling, and waving at people who passed by. An Italian spot caught my eye and I decided to sit in at the counter to enjoy my lunch. I walked back down to my building just before a meeting and decided to stop into the bathroom to make sure I was still looking smooth.

Imagine the horror that I felt when I discovered that I had been walking around all during that hour with a huge dropping stain on my suit jacket.

Anyway, I have managed to get most of the bird matter off my shirt and the day will continue.  It has certainly been a rough morning, but I won't let that ruin the day.

I am choosing to have a good day, despite of the circumstances and I hope you are too.

Question:  Have you ever been hit by a bird while walking somewhere?

  • Sorry to hear about that challenge, Devin. Good job not allowing it to ruin your day.

    • It certainly helped that our family read some encouraging scriptures last night. One was Proverbs 24:10 – “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.”
